365 Composers for 2013 – Discover a Different Composer Every Day!

365 Composers for 2013

Want to expand your knowledge of music? Bored of listening to the same music?

composers-mixIn this new series we’ll be posting about a different composer every day of the year in 2013, starting from January 1st 2013.

Each day we’ll feature a different composer, tell you a little about his/her life and music and showcase some of their music via Youtube.

Each composer has been selected for a specific reason on each day – it could be the anniversary of their birth, death, a national holiday in their country, or the day something eventful happened in their life.

If you’re keen to explore some new composers this is the series for you! Although we will be featuring all the “Greats” such as Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, we’ll also offer you the chance to discover some lesser known (or forgotten) composers whose music is nevertheless pretty good.

We’ve chosen composers from all eras, from as early as the 12th century up to the present day. The genres include Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Nationalism, Modernism and Film Music. We can’t include everything, so you  won’t find Pop/Rock etc., Jazz or Folk music, unless those genres have been blended with something else e.g. a Jazz/Classical fusion.

Each composer has been given a “Fame Ranking”, from 1-5. 1 is given to household names such as Mozart and Bach, and 5 is given to the least well-known or forgotten.

This page will contain links to each post, day by day. (Each new post will be published at around 12pm GMT starting on New Year’s Day 2013). Alternatively, you can subscribe by email,  or join us on Facebook or Twitter for automatic updates.

Make it your New Year’s Resolution to expand your knowledge of composers!
